This is a project that I have created for teaching at a panel. This is for a convention I will be attending in July. The total cost is extremely low and the necessary tools are very basic – no power tools are required.
Tools:
- Scissors
- Sandpaper
- Xacto knife/Box cutter
- Hammer

Directions:
- Cut straws to size
- Paint straws (optional – prime before painting)
- Glue straws together (use superglue for this step)
- Cut the stick to size and shape it
- Hammer nail into stick and remove it
- Stain the wood
- Glue the nail to the button (use epoxy or JB weld for this step)
- Paint “trigger” and “barrels” (this would be the second coat on the barrels)
- Seal all painted surfaces – if you want to, you can also seal the copper to keep it shiny
- Assemble all parts – glue the trigger, copper elbow grip and barrels using epoxy/JB weld
- Optional – Decorate
Tips & Tricks:
- The straws are very light so a number of creative solutions were necessary to keep them in place while spray painting: painter’s tape and a nail sticking out of a piece of cardboard
- Same design can be used for a much more elaborate version (more barrels, side-by-side layout for a shotgun)
- Consider adding additional details such as sights, heat shield, safety, hammer, etc.
